長瀬先生からのメッセージ Message from Prof. Nagase
私達は、中枢神経受容体に作用する薬物の開発を目指して日々研究をしています。中でも睡眠や摂食、情動行動等の高次精神活動を制御するオレキシン作動薬の開発は、最も魅力的かつ重要な研究テーマの一つです。神経ペプチドであるオレキシンと同様の効果を発揮する低分子化合物の創出は、睡眠障害ナルコレプシーの特効薬になり得るばかりでなく、摂食行動や抗うつ・抗不安のメカニズム解明にも繋がります。
また、私達の基盤分野として長年研究を続けているオピオイド系化合物を、特効薬の無い、がん性疼痛、パーキンソン症候群、統合失調症、てんかん等の中枢系の疾病に適用し、独創的新薬を創出する努力も続けています。
私達の研究分野は、本機構で唯一の「創薬化学（メディシナルケミストリー）」です。創薬化学は、有機合成化学を中心に、医学、薬学、生化学、分子生物学、薬理学、薬物動態学、製剤学など多くの学問の上に成り立つ、大変やりがいのある研究です。私達と一緒に研究してみませんか？必ずや将来、優れたメディシナルケミストとして成長し、“君も薬を世に出せる”と期待しています！！
Our research objective is to create drugs that act on the central nervous system. In particular, the orexin receptor agonists are the most attractive and significant goal, because the orexin receptor is related to sleep/wake switching, eating and emotional behavior and we have no specific drugs available. Creation of non-peptide small molecules would lead to treatment for trouble with sleeping, narcolepsy, and also be useful in resolving the mechanism of eating behavior, depressant and anxiety symptoms. Also, we continue our efforts to create first-in-class drugs acting on the central nervous system, such as cancer and neuropathic pain, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, and epilepsy via opioid research, which is our long-term research area.
Our fundamental discipline is Medicinal Chemistry which is the only one domain (group) in IIIS. Medicinal chemistry is an interdisciplinary science, because it rests on not only organic synthetic chemistry, but medical science, pharmaceutical science, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, ADME study and drug formulation.
